Preamble<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the very few benefits of Brexit is that true Duty Free deals are slowly returning to our airports. On a recent trip through Heathrow Airport I took a while to visit the World of Whiskies and have a browse. Whilst there I found this Corryvreckan for sale at an incredibly good price and had to pull the trigger. I’ve heard good things about it, and as a peat lover I had to get in on the action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Liquid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Named after a nearby whirlpool, this is an Ardbeg that is intended to be a lot more medicinal than the usual style. If you like this sort of whisky then it’s an excellent purchase, but maybe avoid it if you don’t. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bottled at 57.1% ABV<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tasting Notes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nose: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peat smoke, of course, but followed by kippers and wafts of vanilla fudge. Fresh hints of hay or heather as it opens up to provide quite a complex aroma if you go looking for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palate: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweet and salty to start with but almost instantly followed by waves of medicinal smoke. Plenty of iodine. Cayenne pepper heats up the mouth and then leather and furniture polish join the queue. As it opens up a bit I also get bay leaf and a little coriander. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finish: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
